Online marketing is a dream isn’t it? All you have to do is to find a product, set up a website and watch the money roll in. The Internet after all is the biggest marketplace on earth. You see opportunities for making money everywhere. Some of them promise that you will make so much money in a few days that you will be able to quit your job and make money while you sleep or travel the world. Many people get caught up in the dream and eagerly buy all kinds of products. The dream of easy money remains a dream.
Why? Because planet Internet, like planet earth is not made of money. Not quite. Well then, is it at all possible to make money online?
There are many people out there telling you that you waste your time trying your hand at Internet marketing. It is all just a scam they say. They tell you they have tried it and it does not work.
Sure, they may have tried it. So have thousands of other people. Most
t of them failed miserably. In fact more than 90 percent fail. However, others make millions online.
They were born with something special?
Sorry, we all get the same at birth: a brain and a body. Granted some can go on to become rocket scientists and others cannot. The truth is that very few online marketing leaders are academic giants.
Nope, some of the most influential people in the world grew up in poverty.
Then what is it that makes success?
You make your own success. You determine your future.
To put it another way: You choose how your life will turn out.
The major factor is your attitude.
Henry Ford said: If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.
He also said: “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”
In these two simple statements lie the secret to online success. Believe you can and chase your goal with unwavering focus.
That is what successful Internet marketers do.
A motivational quote is one thing. Changing your life is another. You may argue that it is easy for Henry Ford to talk. After all, he was in charge of a very successful automobile manufacturing company. Yes, he was, but not always. Ford grew up on a farm and at the age of 16 he decided that he was not happy with the work he did and the way he’s life was turning out. Does that sound familiar?
He did something about it. He left the farm and went on to explore other possibilities. He shifted his paradigm.
What exactly does that mean? In short, it meant that Ford had the courage to look at life and realize that just maybe there was something outside of the existence that he was used to. He was willing to give up what he had and venture into the unknown.
He believed in himself.
This is exactly what you do should when you get involved in Internet marketing. It means giving up the world that you are used to and exchanging it for something new, with all its promises, but also with all its dangers and pitfalls.
You can do at this half-heartedly and be sure of failure. Or you can give it all you have and work your way to success. Online marketing does not work if you see it as a hobby. It is a career. You have to work to build a career.
The fist choice the online marketer is faced with is whether to create his or her own product and or become an affiliate for someone else’s.
Obviously creating your own product takes time and knowledge and probably money as well.
Here is one pitfall that many beginner affiliate marketers fall into. They hear about selling products on the net and decide they will become an affiliate at Amazon, E-Bay or one of a thousand other online suppliers.
They plan to sell for instance diet pills on the net. Then they set up a website and give their product a write-up believing that they are now internet marketers. That is simply not how Internet marketing works.
Firstly physical products generally do not bring you a good commission. They can’t.
The product costs money to manufacture and place on the shelf.
The dealer has to have a mark-up on it.
Once it sells it’s gone. It has to be replaced with another one which also costs money. The cycle repeats itself.
The whole system does not leave a lot of money to throw around as a commission.
That is why many people see digital products as a better proposition for online success. You can sell the same product over and over and there is virtually no cost to it. You do not need shelf space and you do not have to ship it. You can find a lot of digital products on sites such as Clickbank or JVZoo.
However there is also a danger to digital products. People don’t see an e-book for example as a very valuable product. You can’t eat it and you can’t mow the lawn with it. You will have to find a way to sell it for a price that will bring you anywhere near a reasonable income.
Innovative Internet marketers have discovered you must ease your buyer into seeing the real value of the product you have to offer. You must have several products. Start by offering a cheap product and build up to your more expensive product by means of a funnel. Funnels have to be set up, they require knowledge and money.
That is why you should get into the mindset of a marketer and stop trying to get away with spending next to nothing to set up an online business. Get yourself a mentor, who will offer you the necessary training, funnels and products. It is not the cheapest option but it is the quickest and most effective way to succeed in Internet marketing. In fact all the big names in online marketing got where they are because they invested in mentors who have walked the same path and succeeded.
It is obvious then that the first step to success in affiliate marketing starts in the brain. It is the realization that the world is your stage. You are playing the lead role and you have every right to. You do not have to apologize to anyone.
You have this seed to success within you. What you have to do is nurture it and grow it with full confidence.
You have to know what it takes and then do it. The keyword here is confidence. If you pursue your goal with full confidence and a realization that you can do it nothing can stop you.
Only when you have this mindset are you ready to take on the challenges of online marketing. Let us look at the steps involved in online marketing.
Marketing means having a product to sell and someone who is interested in buying it. This process becomes easier when you have a shop where people can look at what you have to offer. Most Internet marketers prefer to set up a blog in order to serve as their shop.
If you have to take away just one thing from all that we have said before, then let it be this: Internet marketing does not start with setting up a website. It starts with the correct mindset. The correct mindset is believing in yourself and realizing that online marketing is a career.
Once you are committed to giving it all you have you can start thinking about a website.
The steps to setting up a website has been explained over and over on the Internet. I am not going to reinvent the wheel in this article.
Your website is your online voice. It is a place where you display who you are. For a marketer this means the opportunity to connect to his or her future clients.
It has to be attractive and easy to navigate and it has to load quickly. These three points are not negotiable.
You should first of all determine what purpose it will serve and fill it with content that you create
Not long ago, people simply saw web pages as advertising space. As time went by, however, more and more website owners have discovered that it makes a great social medium. They use it to connect with people and build communities that can help them promote their products.
Should you advertise on your website or use it to build a community of your own? That is for you to decide.
People have problems and they are looking online for answers. This gives you the opportunity to help them and make friends in the process.
There is good PLR content on the net that will help you achieve this in a way that does not requite a lot of sweat or writing skills. The problem with PLR content is simple though. Anybody can use it and everybody does. Your website is a carbon copy of other websites. Ideally it should be your unique voice. It must bear your stamp and your style. People should come to it because they want to read your content.
There is no tool that can produce content that will radiate your personality. You will have to do it yourself.
Write great content and do so often.
Why can’t you just make a video? Sure you can. In fact you should. Keep in mind that search engines cannot pick up the content of your video and audio files. Therefore you must use them to supplement your writing, not to replace it.
What should you write? Posts that solve a real a real problem for a real person. Find that problem, research it and solve it through your writing.
In other words, the first step to online success is finding a real problem, followed by finding the solution and putting it down in writing on your blog. You can go about finding specific problems in a variety of ways. There are places and tools that you may use to find out what people are talking about in your niche.
Companies thrive because people recognize their name. They have built a presence and a position of leadership by producing a great product and linking it to a great and memorable logo. That is what you need to do right from the word go. Stand out in the sea of blogs around you.
Design your own logo or let a professional designer do it for you. The important point is that you must have a little graphic that shouts out your name at a glance.
Another very important way to brand yourself is to use your picture and your real name. Make sure that people can recognize you whenever you use social media sites, comment on blogs or reply to or reply to questions on Forums.
Without people to visit and view your content your blog is worthless. You have to drive traffic and the best way to do this is to have people who visit your site regularly.
You need friends. For online success you need to build communities and tribes. Internet marketing, including affiliate marketing is not about your content. It is not about your website. It is about your friends. When you want to sell something you need a buyer. In a world with extremely high competition such as the Internet, buyers are difficult to find and impress. You can create content until you turn blue. If you don’t place that content in front of the right people it will do nothing for you.
That is why you should create content and place it, not only on your own page, but on as many different places on the Internet as possible. Even so, chances are that the right buyer may not see it or even worse that the right buyer may see but because he or she does not know you, they will click right past it without even reading. Internet marketers talk about traffic. Traffic means people. You are not really chasing people. You are chasing the right people and in order to know who they are you have to connect with them. If you can come up with a marketing strategy that can be summarized in the words I will sell to my friends it will deliver results in the long term.
This of course implies that you have real friends, not acquaintances. You do not really need somebody who will visit your online home and maybe scan through your content. You need somebody who has met you and is eager to read what you have to say. In order to find such a person you have to talk to as many people as possible. There is a lot of opportunity for this on places such as Facebook. The direct messaging facility gives you the opportunity to talk to someone in real time.
The first step in this process is to find as many friends as you possibly can on Facebook and Twitter. Then, be alert and keep your eyes open for an opportunity to connect. If somebody sends you a friend request say thank you when you accept. If you see on Facebook that one of your friends have a birthday, send him or her a happy birthday message. Place that message on his or her wall or use direct messaging. Make it personal. Many times you will receive a thank you message and that will open the door to further discussion. Do not just jump in and start selling. Talk to that person show that you are interested in him or her as a human being.
Ask them about why they are online. Is it for business or for pleasure? The response will often include a similar question from them. That is your opportunity to tell them about your business and what it has done for you. You might tell them how you got started, and why you enjoy it. That does not mean start selling. It simply means get enough information to spark curiosity. Tell them about your website and even ask them to join your list so that you can keep in contact with them by email.
So many Internet marketing teachers tell you to find out where your target audience is. This is a concept that never really made sense to me. How do you find that out? People from all ages and genders might be interested in the same thing. Some of them will be on Facebook, some on Twitter, Quora, Pinterest or a thousand other places. The best you can do is to promote your content when and where you can and go all out to make friends when and where you can.
Make sure to deliver value on your site. A decent valuable freebie is one way of doing this. Don’t however just give it away. Give it away in exchange for the email address of the visitor so that you can contact him or her by email. That way if somebody who is not yet a friend lands on your site you can nurture a friendship by sending them emails. However there is also another reason why you should have online friends.
Very often far too many people do not get the recognition they deserve from others. All they hear day by day is criticism. They develop a weak self- image. As an online friend you can give them the recognition they deserve. A friendly word can go far in giving someone confidence. You can touch lives.
Online marketing requires work. It is the sort of work that you cannot just charge into head first. You have to know what you are doing and then work according to a schedule.
You need a strategy that can follow day after day and point by point. You need to drive traffic and therefore you need to know the ways in which you can do it and weave them into your schedule. You have to plan.
Then you have to stick to your strategy day by day and hour after hour. Your planner should be your guide, something to keep you focussed because the Internet is a place that has many inviting and distracting little corners. Once you wander off you can get lost. Determination and a good plan is your only way to stay on track.
Traffic is the lifeblood of online marketing but it is not easy to get traffic. You need to understand the different methods and keep a close watch on your time management and budget to make a success of this very important aspect of online marketing. There are any ways and tools available to get the traffic you need.
You also have to keep in mind that traffic is not your end goal. You are in this business because you want to make sales.
What do you do with your traffic?
First of all you must make sure that you have an account with an auto responder service then place an attractive optin-form on a very prominent place on your page.
When someone opts in take very good care of him or her. Send them e-mails on a regular basis. Sometimes you may send a newsletter just to talk and ask questions about pain points your subscriber may have. It is good to built trust.
You are also going to promote your products through your e-mails. You must know how to write solid promotional e-mails that will catch the eye and connect to your prospect on an emotional level. Keep sending e-mails and keep connecting.
Writing good promotional e-mails is an art. It requires an understanding of people and what will influence their decisions.
All people have basically the same needs. We all need food to eat and somewhere to live. If we have that, then our very, very basic needs are met.
However, we don’t just exist. We live, feel, enjoy, laugh and cry because we are emotional beings. We have emotional needs and they are interlinked. They build on each other.
We all need to belong somewhere. If we feel we do we can move on to the next step in our emotional development. We want to feel special. We do not only need to know we belong, but that we are respected and loved by others. If this need is met, we start developing a good image of ourselves. We become more confident. We realize what we can do and we have the courage to do it.
This is what sales communication is all about. You have to make your client realize that he or she is a valued friend. You concentrate on building a connection on the basis that you want to be their friend because you respect them. You have to convince them that you offer a product to them because you feel it will enrich their lives and as a friend that is what you want for them.
That is the kind of message that you send in your e-mails. You don’t tell them that your product has more buttons, bells and whistles than its competitors. They can ask those questions later if they are interested. The aim of your e-mails is to get them interested in your product because it can do something for them. It can add to their quality of life. That is what they are interested in on an emotional level.
That is how you go about making a sale. First sell yourself, then sell the product.
